Trumeau - Bureau with Upper Cabinet - A two-piece, handcrafted cabinet featuring a solid fir wood structure and exposed surfaces veneered in chestnut burr and national walnut, a faithful reproduction of a Baroque-style piece. The base is equipped with four curved legs, two drawers with period-style handles, and a fall-front writing desk with a lock, revealing four interior drawers and a small door. The upper cabinet is a display case with a single door featuring antique glass and one shelf; the interior sections are upholstered with white damask fabric. The entire cabinet showcases the curved and convex surfaces characteristicof the Baroque style. The darker wood is chestnut burr, while the lighter wood is national walnut. These are 3-4 millimeter thick wood veneers meticulously glued onto the solid fir structure, a craftsmanship technique commonly employed in the 18th century. Many of the small dots visible on the cabinet's surface are marks from the fine nails used to secure the wood during the original gluing process (as was customary in past centuries). Other dots and simulated woodworm holes are part of the sophisticated antiquing finish applied during the varnishing process.
