Wood - Walnut
In the tradition of Venetian fine furniture, the walnut (genus Juglans - family Juglandaceae) has been the most widely utilized essence for producing furniture designed to endure over time. It is the esteemed wood we still use today.
Juglans regia e Juglans nigra are the scientific names respectively for the European walnut (origin Europe) and of the American walnut (origin USA and Canada), the only varieties we consider.
Other woods used in some items includeelm (thick refectory tables), oak e chestnut. Linden e fir for lacquered furniture.
Please Note: other types of wood commonly referred to as walnut (Tanganyika walnut, Tulipwood walnut,...) are not part of the European and American walnut family, but are other types of wood with distinct characteristics and lower commercial value.
Important Note: wood is a 'living' and natural material that continues to live even after its biological end. Any minor fissures that may appear in solid wood components (as also occurs in antique and original furniture pieces) are not to be considered imperfections or the result of defective workmanship. The same applies to small knots and grain variations which, instead, attest to the natural authenticity of the material used and render the furniture piece unique and valuable.
Wood is able to constantly adjust its moisture content to the ambient environment: for optimal preservation of furniture, an environment with approximately 60% humidity and 20°C temperature is recommended, avoiding excessive fluctuations.
